We’ve already put in a full day in San Fran; Alcatraz, China Town, Lombard Street and a surprise wine tasting. To cap off our first day we decide to head to Ghirardelli Square. While wandering around the area what do we find? A little place called Bluxome Street Winery. I’m really starting to like San Francisco more by the minute!
Unlike the Winery Collective, Bluxome Street Wines only sells wines that they produce. It’s a small operation. They only own 3 acres so they have to buy a lot of their grapes from other vineyards. After our previous tastings at the WC, I had high hopes for these wines. But sadly, they were just not as good as the wines we had sampled just an hour earlier. They are not bad wines, just not good enough to justify prices that were too high in my opinion. If you want to sell your Chards for $30-40 and your Pinots for around $50, they better be really, really good. The tasting room is expansive and our pouring host was quite pleasant. They also have a selection of cheeses to purchase if you want a light snack to enjoy with your wine. The cheeses were actually more interesting than the wines. We enjoyed our tastings but did not make any purchases. Links to tasting notes below:
After this tasting we headed to the Ghirardelli store to buy what seemed like 30 pounds of chocolate in an array of flavors. What a way to end our first full day in San Francisco, wine and chocolate. It doesn’t get much better than that.
