Wednesday Wine Pick – Canyon Oaks Shiraz 2015. Each Wednesday I try to find a good mid-week wine that won’t bust the budget. It was with much trepidation that I opened this wine. The Canyon Oaks Zinfandel I had a while back was terrible and I bought this one at the same time. But this California Shiraz was a pleasant surprise. Pretty, ruby color. The nose is bready, toasted pecans, eucalyptus & some dark cherry notes. The flavors are tart fruit; cranberry & cherries with some under-ripe blackberry. Mild tannins. Long warming finish with a good dose of oak. Drink this before 3 hours is up – the oak comes on heavy at that point. A very nice mid-week wine for around $5. I give it 87 points IMHO.
